NewsCanadian Nationals ResultsPosted by Paul S on Mon November 20, 2000 at 0h00The Canadian National Scrabble® Championship took place this
past weekend in Toronto. Calgary sent 9 players. Their results are
now available in the Out of Town Results
Archive. Congratulations especially to Albert Hahn for
finishing fourth, webmaster Paul Sidorsky for finishing tenth,
and Mike Ryan (who is from BC but plays out of our club) for
finishing eleventh in a field of 50.
We at the Calgary Scrabble® Group would also like to
congratulate BC player Ron Hoekstra for his amazing win of the
championship title. Ron went 17-1 in the main tournament (losing only
to our own 14-year-old whiz kid Leon Fernandes) and swept the
best of five final in three games. Ron qualified 15th, so needless to
say I don't think too many people would have placed money on him
winning, and especially on the way in which he did it! It was quite an
amazing performance.
Complete
results are on the NSA's excellent
CNSC Web Site which
includes play-by-play from all Board 1 games plus the three matches in
the final.
