Twenty eight Scrabble nuts, er, fans turned up for one of the longest-running
(if not the longest-running) continuous tournament on the continent this
weekend. As our computer wiz Juraj Pivovarov (the only guy in Scrabbledom both
of whose names need blanks to spell) has already posted the standings details,
I'm giving below only the category prizewinners. Dan Pratt, coming all the way
from Maryland, dominated Div. 1 from the start, and was Gibsonized for the last
(14th) round. Divs. 2 & 3 winners were decided only by spread.. We gave away
prizes totalling $1,235, or over 90% of the entry fees received, as usual.

Many thanks to Juraj and club co-directors Wayne Clifford, Randall Thomas and
Betty Bergeron for their contribution to make this tournament a success. Our
next event in Calgary is the Big One, the 13th Annual Western Canadian
Championship October 15 to 19 - three back-to-back tournaments over five days,
totalling 8 + 8 + 21 = 37 rounds. More about that later.
