First, I'd just like to mention that during the time I'm only able
to update the site every few weeks I'll be writing longer,
all-encompassing news updates to announce what's going on. Anything
significant that might be added in between will of course be announced
on its own.
Anyhow, as promised, I'm still here! I have a few interesting
things to report along with some regular news. First, the mundane
stuff:
February Tournament Results are
now available. I'm really sorry about the delay. After doing the
results for cgp, I got swamped with school (three midterms in a week).
Note that I almost always do the results for cgp immediately. If you
want to subscribe, go to Onelist,
search for crossword-games-pro and follow the
subscription instructions. (NOTE: cgp is for rated tournament
players only.)
Ratings from the Winter Tournament are NOT available,
yet. I did not participate in this tournament so I didn't get the
ratings mailed to me. I am waiting for the NSA to post them on their
site, but they haven't shown up yet. As soon as they are available, I
will put them up. (This won't likely be announced, so keep checking
the Ratings Page for updates.)
Tournament Details for all tournaments this year (except
SeaCal, which will be available shortly, and CalSask, for which a date
hasn't even been set yet) are now available. This includes the
WCSC for 2000! Check our Tournament
List for a complete schedule and links to the online brochures.
The Ladder Archive has been updated with
the results through the end of February. This concludes our
1999 season! Our Annual Dinner takes place
this Saturday where the various winners will be officially
announced. (Unfortunately, I lost my sheet with the dinner details.
If you need more information about the dinner, please email
Siri.
I have the results from Reno and Phoenix, but have not
had time to post them in the Out of Town
Results archive. This is a low priority but I will try to get to
it soon.
Now, to the interesting stuff!
You might have read the above and wondered where the March
ladders are. Well, they're not available yet. I'm withholding them
for a few weeks while I perform the long-awaited UPGRADE! This
is the one that was supposed to take place late last year. I've
resolved most of the problems so it can now go ahead. The new stats
and results will be finished by early April, although I'm going
to try to get them done sooner. I apologize for any inconvenience
caused by the lack of information. I figure the start of the season is
the best time to do an upgrade, because the seasonal stats are fairly
obvious at this time.
Lastly, within the next two weeks I should be finalizing the site's
move to its own domain. I'd like to hear from people on
suggestions for the name! My personal preference is for
club374.org. There are some other possibilities revolving
around our new incorporated name, Calgary Lexicon Club, such as:
calgarylexicon.org, callex.org, etc. Any other
suggestions are welcome, but the final decision rests with the club
Directors. NOTE: Suggestions CANNOT contain "scrabble"
or anything close (e.g. "scrab") due to trademark restrictions, and
must end in ".org" out of respect for Internet domain naming custom. To
save me time, please run ideas through the search engine
here before
submitting to me so I don't
waste my time trying to get a domain that is taken.
That's it for now!
