NewsRatings are Back!Posted by Paul S on Sat July 01, 2000 at 0h00On behalf of the entire Calgary Scrabble® Group I'd like to wish
all Canadians a Happy Canada Day!
The Ratings Page has been fixed and
upgraded! Ratings from the Summer Tournament are now online. In
addition to the program being fixed so it can't lose data, I've also
added the Full Ratings Report. The full
report shows each player's average rating and tracks their last 24
ratings. You can see how the rating of any Calgary player has risen
and fallen in their recent tournaments!
Interestingly enough, the Consistency Factor that previously
appeared on the ratings page turned out to be bogus after all!
I'd always suspected this but it seemed to work so I left it. The only
reason it worked at all was because the average was computed over all
of the stored tournaments for a player, but the consistency factor was
computed for just a short period of time. This was actually a bug, so
when I fixed it the uselessness of the stat became obvious: if the two
periods are the same, the factor is always 0! Thus, the consistency
factor is gone. Let us never speak of it again!
