Calgary is honoured to host the 2011 Can-Am Scrabble Challenge.

The tournament will be held at the Radisson Hotel, 2120, 16 Ave. NE, Calgary on March 19 & 20 (Sat. & Sun.) starting at 9.00 a.m. each day.

The Cam-Am Scrabble Challenge is played between the top seven Canadian players and the top seven Americans. Among them they boast several world, Canadian and US Championships. The Canadian team is led by Adam Logan of Ottawa, the reigning Canadian champion and a former world and US champion.

Here's a list of the previous seven Can-Am Scrabble Challenges, which the USA has won 5-2.

Year City Winner CAN USA
2002 Niagara Falls, CAN CAN 43.5 28.5
2004 Toronto, CAN USA 34.5 63.5
2005 Chicago USA USA 37.0 61.0
2006 Toronto, CAN CAN 51.0 47.0
2007 Dallas, USA USA 41.5 56.5
2008 Toronto, CAN USA 47.5 50.5
2009 Denver, USA USA 37.5 60.5

The tournament format is a double round robin, where each Canadian will face each American twice.

Below is the lineup of players, with total scores (out of 14 games, except 2002 - 12 games) they achieved at previous Can-Am's. In scrabble, with a considerable element of luck, winners of tournaments typically score 66%. Thus scores of 10/14 or better are especially noteworthy. Each team has one player that has played in ALL SEVEN previous Can-Am's, and each team has several players that have never competed in the Can-Am before.
