Making Scrabble Great Again; Loo wins 13-1

Michael Loo delivered an incredible performance with 11-0 in the preliminary round robin in division 1. He was gibsonized. But at the very end, our own Mike Ebanks finally mananaged to take a game off him. Loo finished 13-1 +1220 and won by a full four games over the field.
In division two, Vish somehow forgot that the tournament was on. He gave everyone a four game head start before joining in, and somehow still managed a clear first. He even tied for Bingo Ace! Rod Weis graciously gave Vish the prize as Vish also scored 21 bingos, but in fewer rounds.
In Division three, Darlene Kendel started off with a rocking 7-1, and Sylvia was trailing with only 5-3. Yet on Sunday Sylvia managed to catch and surpass and took first place, by a two lead margin.

We tried a new format to narrow the rating gap between players in the divisions. Div Three was aprox 500-900, so a spread of 400. Div Two was 900 - 1150, so about 250. And Div One, excluding one outlier, was 1150-1550, about 400 points. Instead of splitting it 12-6-6 this tournament, 8-8-8 would not have been a bad choice either. We did deliberate carefully on what we though would be a fair system.

Volunteers
Finally, we would like to thank our volunteers. Rod's daughter Elsje helped with the tournament data entry on Saturday morning, and tsh teaching. And a newcomer to our Scrabble scene - Jennifer - was a real asset during the duration of the event. She made sure pairings came out timely, and all results were entered. That really freed up the rest of us to play and enjoy the tournament. She is a scrabble player too - she plays Maureen M. sometimes - and may join us one day as a competitor. Thank you.
