Tournaments
In tournaments, byes are assigned to the lowest ranked player who is eligible. Ranking has nothing to do with rating but rather ranking in the tournament. A player is eligible if they have had the least number
of byes of all players.
(In some tournaments, like 14 rounds with 11 people, some people will inevitably get more than one bye. 14 people have to sit out, one each round, but we only have 11 players. Three will get a double bye. The way this is worded means a player won't get a second bye until all others have had their bye first).
Thursday Ladder
As we are grouped into sections, latecomers are very disruptive. Groups would have to be reshuffled, and games may already have started, etc.
To that end, a player showing up after 18:45 will only be permitted to play if they make the numbers even and no games have started yet.
Sunday and Tuesday Opens
As these are open tournaments (one division), it's far easier to accomodate an extra player. However, if we are odd, then the first bye will go to anyone who joined after our posted starting time. So if we start at 18:45, and someone makes us odd by joining at 18:46, then they will get the dubious honour of receiving the first bye.
Otherwise, all byes are assigned completely randomly by drawing
names out of a hat. Of course, if someone is assigned a bye for round 1,
they will not be eligible for a bye in subsequent rounds.
Discord Timestamp
Whenever a player signs in to play a tournament, they type in '!here'.
This message is stamped with a timestamp by discord, so we have proof
when someone joined. We'll use that to settle any disputes. If it shows
18:45, that's on time, and 18:46 is one minute late.
