Ladders Fixed!

Posted by Paul S on Fri January 07, 2000 at 0h00

First off, Happy new year to all!

I'm happy to announce that the technical glitches with the Ladder Archive have been corrected. The problem, for those who care, is not entirely clear, but it seems to be related to the gradual degredation of the accuracy of the ladder positions. From what I can tell, when the site's copy of the ladder gets too far away from the official ladder, it can confuse the program to the point where it doesn't work properly.

The upshot is that I'll have to take more care to keep the ladder accurate. To that end, I've added code to make it easier for me to do so. Hopefully I can do monthly updates and that will keep things working properly. I guess that's not so bad!

Ladder position corrections were implemented for December 2nd, 1999 and then that and all subsequent ladders were (re)built up to and including January 6th, 2000. All can now be viewed in the archive.

In addition, I am in the process of detailing discrepancies in wins/byes for review with our statistician. When this process was last completed several months ago, nine discrepancies were discovered. Eight of which actually turned out to be errors by the statistician, so the Ladder Archive on this site is actually helping to keep the information accurate! The review should be completed within two weeks, which will take us in to the stretch portion of our club season.

I apologize for the long period of downtime in the archive. It just had to occur right in the middle of my final exams when I had no time to fix it right away!
