NewsEmil Rem wins April TournamentPosted by Juraj on Sun April 02, 2023 at 18h17
Emil Rem won the April Tournament with a 12-2 record, having to win both games against Siri Tillekeratne in the last two rounds to do so. Finishing very strongly was Yukari Balabanov, in clear 3rd place. As there were two overseed prizes, yet she finished 3rd, she was entitled to the higher prize of $120 vs $100 for 3rd.
The two overseed prizes were split three ways. (Normally they are not split, simply the two highest finishers who moved up the most spots would get the prize. But this was an alternate, and equally good, way to do it.) Thus $210 was split between Terri Morigeau, Danielle Barker and John Aitken.
Thank you to all for playing in the tournament, especially Yukari and John who traveled from BC and Hank from SK. We thank everyone for their understanding of having an odd number of players after Plan A (Juraj to direct, but had covid) and the contingency Plan B (Rod to direct, but also had fallen ill) fell through. We try very hard to have a person waiting to step in or drop out and keep the numbers even, but we were simply unlucky this time round. It sounds like everyone had a great time despite the organizational setback. And congratulations once again to the prize winners.
A big thank you to Siri for stepping in to direct at the last minute, despite not knowing the tournament software. And to Danielle Barker for doing the data entry at the tournament so we could post results, standings and submit it to WGPO promptly.
